This is a trial version of the Woods for the Trees website. We are using a free WordPress template to plan and test the content that we will need when the site goes live.
We would like the live site to be as professional-looking as possible, without ads and with a great deal more control over the final layout. Moreover, the site must be as energy-efficient as possible.
The Website Carbon Calculator gives a sustainability rating for websites, based on hosting, page weights, and use of colour and imagery. This trial site is currently rated as “cleaner than 58% of web pages tested” – but our ambitious goal for the live site is to be 90% cleaner.
We will achieve this by careful optimisation of imagery and colour palette, and by choosing a green web hosting platform. The trees planted by our volunteers store carbon, and the last thing we want is for our website to undo their good work!
