This time last year we launched a scheme called What 3 Trees to support our schools programme. The idea was simple: you buy one of our colourful gift cards for £10 and send it to a friend or relative. We plant three native British trees and ALL the money (minus the cost of printing the card) goes to assembling a schools pack that helps young people collect seeds and grow trees from them for their school or for a local tree-planting project.
There are lots of schemes where you can sponsor tree planting but ours is unique, because we send the recipient of the card a certificate showing them EXACTLY where the three trees planted in their name have been planted. How do we do that? We use the brilliant What3Words app , which allows us to pinpoint the trees precisely and show their location on a map or satellite image: hence, What 3 Trees! And, since our tree planting sites are accessible, you can visit the trees and watch them grow.

We’ve signed three schools to the scheme so far, and in 2024, with your support, we aim to get many more involved. For this new planting season we have designed two new, unique gift cards: one for general gift-giving; the other for Christmas – suitably seasonal, depicting a holly. On the back of each card are details of how to redeem the gift with a simple, one-off code.

We have been out planting native British woodland trees already this autumn. We or the landowner pay for the trees or grow them from seed ourselves, and plant them in a suitable shelter with stake to make sure they et the best possible start. With your help we can do more – much more.
