Trees planted in the last two or three seasons are extremely prone to spring and summer droughts – their roots haven’t yet developed enough to find water at greater depths. The good news is – and this is a great ‘Did you know?’ – that even under a hosepipe ban you are allowed to water tree saplings less than three years old.
Don’t just take my word for it… follow this link to read the Tree Council’s advice. If your neighbours get at you or report you, you can calmly cite the law and urge them to do the same – water their saplings, that is.
